On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic set off on her maiden voyage. For 5 days, passengers enjoyed luxurious life on the largest ship in the world. On the evening of April 14, Captain Smith retires to his room at 9:40 p.m., ignoring several ice warnings received. At 11:40, an iceberg is spotted right in front of the Titanic. The Titanic takes a hard left turn, but still scrapes the sides. At 12:05 a.m. Captain Smith orders the crew to prepare lifeboats and start loading up passengers. The loading of lifeboats is hectic, the command, "women and children first", was given, only allowing few men on the boats. The lifeboats quickly dissapeared into the cold night. At 2:18 a.m., all the lifeboats are gone, over 1,500 passengers have been left in the freezing water or on the boat, and the Titanic snaps in half. Two minutes later, the Titanic is completely submerged. At 4:10, the Carpathia arrives, and picks up the first of the survivors. By 8:10, all the survivors are aboard the Carpathia. Three days later, on April 18, 1912, the Carpathia arrives in New York with Titanic survivors and the news hits the RMS Titanic, was, in fact, sinkable. After the sinking of the Titanic, several changes in maritime laws were made.

"God himself could not sink this ship!" "There was too much brag and not enough seaworthy construction." |
